WHAT ARE
CAT & DOG
WORMS?

Adult worms are Parasites generally found within the intestines of your Dog or Cat, though some species of worms can be found in other locations.
Roundworms look like pieces of string, Tapeworms are long and flat with segments which look like grains of rice and can be mobile. Occasionally they can be seen on the hair around the anus. Worm eggs remain infective in the environment for years.
Lungworm is a threat if your dog eats slugs or snails, or if their toys or water bowls are left in the garden and become contaminated by their slime trails.

WHAT CAN WORMS DO TO MY PET?

Heavy infestations can result in vomiting, sever diarrhoea and cause a loss of blood and weight.  Worms weaken the immune system and by migration through the major organs can cause illnesses like pneumonia.

WHAT CAN WORMS DO TO MY FAMILY IF UNTREATED?
The greatest threat to human health is the larvae from the roundworm Toxocara. Toxocara worms produce infectious eggs, which dogs and cats can pass in their faeces. These eggs can remain in places like garden soil for up to Two years and still be infectious to our pets and people if ingested, which in extreme cases can cause blindness and heart problems.

HOW CAN I CONTROL WORMS IN MY PETS?

Using a suitable treatment to keep your Dog or Cat completely free from Roundworm, Tapeworms, etc is vital for keeping them healthy.

Worming Treatments can also be used to prevent Heart and Lungworm. If you worm your Dog or Cat regularly, they will be happy and there is no chance of them putting you at risk by passing worm eggs in their faeces.

Here at Aarons Pets we Stock `Drontal` a Veterinary Strength Wormer Tablet form for both Dogs and Cats, and `Dronspot` a spot on treatment for Cats.
